Steamboat Pictures

Side view showing the general arrangement of the cylinders, California cutoff valve gear, controls, cross head, pittman arm, paddle wheel and the engine base.

A 3/4 rear view showing the steam control valve and condensate drains, engine reverse and cutoff controls for the port and starboard engines.

The entire engine assembly with the steam valve towers at the ends of the cylinders, valve lifting beams, intake wedge boxes, and the valve operating mechanism.  The charm of these engines is the busy linkage motion.

Close up view of the California cutoff mechanism, steam supply line, reverse and cutoff controls and another view of the cylinder.

Close-up of cross head assembly, pittman arm attachment and California cut off linkage.

Additional detail pictures of the intricate linkage.

The wheel is made from 5 aluminum castings mounted to a common steel shaft. The protrusion at the top of the wheel stiffening ring is a witness mark for alignment.
